Designer Brian Carlisle has literally brought life to an old copper fireplace coal bin using old percolators, tea pots, used license plates, sugar canisters, discarded flour sifters etc. the designer turned the simple bin into a water can which of course took such a decorative look that it ended up as one of the most beautiful and unique bird houses. Quirky and whimsical, this design has been created to remind all the people out there to consider recycling as a mandatory requirement to preserve the environment.


Dutch Designer AnneMarie van Splunter has designed a spectacular art form that signifies GoPlay! a garden created for refugee children along the border of Thailand and Burma. The designer has created a gigantic and beautiful squid using old tires only. Tentacles spread out throughout the garden are an amazing sight and a beautiful structure for children to play on. These tires and the whole structure is supported by steel frames and hence makes the structure exceedingly durable. Called Rubber Tree, this squid shape is one of its kind.



The Push design by designer Robert Buss has been created in the form of new furniture items made out of discarded office documents. The designer has used felt and glass in the design to give them a more exquisite and elegant look. Named after the documents that have been used to create them, the Security Documents Chair, Menu Table and Bank Statements Shelving is a graceful addition to the office furniture. The creation not only exhibits expression of creativity but also the need to recycle.


Artist Sumer Erek has established himself as a world class artist by some of the most magnificent designs he has created. However there is one that stands out as a clear signal for a number of issues we face today. These include the need for recycling, the lack of shelter for a large portion of global population and the excessive deforestation due to indiscriminate use of resources. He has created life size houses made of recycled newspaper in London and Liverpool to put his point across.


Recycled Eco lighting system created by Charles Parsons’ DIY project has brought about an excellent and stylish solution for lighting up urban décor. A creation that is made totally out of recycled items, the project uses colored zip ties that come with the packing of materials. All these material s are usually thrown away but the DIY project brings them together to create impressive and imaginative art forms held together by nuts and washers. The end result is one of the most fabulous lighting system that you can come across.


There is no better way of informing the need of recycling than by using the most obvious form of delivering it. TRASHed- The Art of Recycling focuses on dustbins as the mode of depiction of the idea. Dustbins have always been around but we always fail to notice them because of their obvious presence. The program aims at using bins and painting them in artistic and attractive manner so that even if you want to, you would not be able to ignore them.


Beauty is all pervasive and it is evident from the art forms created by artist Warren Muller. The artist has put together regular items like water hose, wheel, kitchen utensils all of which have been discarded but the artist found them and put them to excellent use. He has created lighting systems that are colorful yet elegant, charming yet utilitarian. These “lamps” and “chandeliers” are some of the most graceful artistic creations made out of collating and attaching disposable items. However they run the idea of recycling right home!


Japanese artist Tadashi Kwamata creates artwork in wood. His work is created on a grand scale and the artist uses old scraps of furniture and wood only to create his work. The artist has not restricted his work at galleries. He displays them wherever he deems fit they would pass on the message for recycling. He uses the wood collected form scrap yards and homes to create humungous structures. All these items have one purpose; spread the message to save the environment and reuse items as much as possible.


The “Wind Brought Us the Crisis” is an art portrait created by Gustavo Sanabria which consists of news paper, specifically the financial times section. Each of these news paper sheets are highlighted by lights being placed underneath them and making them glow. These papers were placed and then blown on the steps of the Stock Exchange in Madrid. The photographer took the perfect shots that forms this collection of pictures which have been created to highlight the economic crisis that has affected all countries.


Nothing sends a message across better than an artistic campaign. Fost Plus has come up with a simple and an effective ad campaign against littering. This campaign has a tag line that says “Litter Belongs in the trash bin”. However it is not the tagline but the art that it brings with it catches attention. The campaign features a magazine with litter on it. Raw in creativity and effectiveness of this art form is what has made this campaign really successful.


In March 2007, Rome was a center of attention for all different reasons. The city had statues all around, a total of 1000 in number. The bit that was so special about these statues was the fact that they were all made of garbage. These statues were displayed to garner solidarity for the need to recycling. The city is known for its culture and architecture. This display was to show to the world the need to inculcate the habit of recycling as a part of our lives.


Artist Chris Jordan has been one of the most influential artists in the country who has put across messages related to relentless exploitation of natural resources in a manner that affects our health as well as our daily lives. His creations are grand and the message is pretty clear. For example, Running the Numbers series has Oil Barrel portrait featuring 28000 42 gallon oil barrels depicting oil consumed in America in 2 minutes. Skull with a Cigarette features 200,000 cigarette packs, amount of cigarettes smoked every 6 months in America.


Artist Bernard Pras is one of the most famous artists who is well known for his 3D portraits. The artist uses items of daily use including broken toys and their component parts. The artist also uses plastic items thrown away or any metallic item that he can use. However the final art form is so different from the usual ones that the viewer who might have been watching the preparation will be taken aback. The artist creates in the true spirit of recycling.


Artist Garry LeMaster is an artist who does something that is surprisingly unique and almost unknown. The artist is known for his excellent craftsmanship on egg shells. He has found a stupendous use of eggs and his craftsmanship depicts how to use daily items to create something par excellence? His artwork comprises of detailed textures on the egg shell which though makes them delicate, but also show the nuances of details that can be created on something as fragile as an egg.



Artist Brian Dettemer is a professional artist who is known to create abstract designs made from books that have no longer got any use. The artist uses his creative bent of mind and hi aesthetic sense to transform these books into such beautifully crafted items that defy the conventional norms of beauty. He uses singular and multiple books to create his exquisite art work, which are all exhibited in different art galleries. His audacious style certainly shows yet another form of art that has been unknown.
